Arzuaga Winery
Arzuaga Winery, a family-owned gem, is located in Valladolid, at the heart of the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin. The winery's vineyards are found in La Planta, an estate belonging to the Arzuaga family in Quintanilla de Onésimo. This location is a haven for vine-growing, providing the perfect balance of sun and moisture that allows the grapes to ripen to perfection. Arzuaga wines are crafted based on three key premises: the soil, the climate, and the orientation of the vineyards. The soil, rich and fertile, provides a strong foundation for the vines. The climate, with its generous sun and adequate moisture, ensures the grapes mature perfectly. The orientation of the vineyards is carefully considered, maximizing the exposure to the sun and optimizing the growth of the vines. The Arzuaga family's commitment to these premises results in wines that are a true reflection of their terroir. Each bottle of Arzuaga wine brings forth the flavours and aromas unique to the Ribera del Duero region, making it a delightful experience for wine connoisseurs.
Arzuaga, Crianza, 2019
Arzuaga Crianza hails from the renowned Ribera del Duero region of Spain, an area celebrated for the quality of its Tempranillo wines. The producer, Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro, is a well-recognized name in this region.
The term Crianza refers to the aging process, with this wine spending a specific time in oak barrels before additional aging in the bottle. Spanish wine laws dictate that Ribera del Duero Crianza wines must age for a minimum of 24 months, 12 of which are spent in oak barrels.
The wine's composition is predominantly Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grapes, complemented by a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. This blend may vary between vintages.
Arzuaga Crianza displays a rich, deep cherry-red hue. The aroma is a pleasing mix of red and black fruits, including cherries, blackberries, and plums. This fruitiness is enhanced by notes of vanilla and spice, with possible hints of tobacco, courtesy of the oak aging. The palate mirrors these aromas, presenting a full-bodied wine with balanced tannins and good acidity. An underlying minerality and density, characteristic of Ribera del Duero wines, enhances the overall flavor profile.
With its versatility in food pairing, Arzuaga Crianza is an ideal companion to a variety of meat dishes, particularly lamb and beef. It also pairs well with aged cheeses and hearty stews.
