Arzuaga Winery
Arzuaga Winery, a family-owned gem, is located in Valladolid, at the heart of the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin. The winery's vineyards are found in La Planta, an estate belonging to the Arzuaga family in Quintanilla de Onésimo. This location is a haven for vine-growing, providing the perfect balance of sun and moisture that allows the grapes to ripen to perfection. Arzuaga wines are crafted based on three key premises: the soil, the climate, and the orientation of the vineyards. The soil, rich and fertile, provides a strong foundation for the vines. The climate, with its generous sun and adequate moisture, ensures the grapes mature perfectly. The orientation of the vineyards is carefully considered, maximizing the exposure to the sun and optimizing the growth of the vines. The Arzuaga family's commitment to these premises results in wines that are a true reflection of their terroir. Each bottle of Arzuaga wine brings forth the flavours and aromas unique to the Ribera del Duero region, making it a delightful experience for wine connoisseurs.
Arzuaga, La Planta, 2022
La Planta is the brainchild of Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro, a winery that has carved its name in the hearts of wine lovers from the Ribera del Duero region in Spain. The winery is nestled in an area blessed with limestone and chalky soils, which are highly conducive to grape cultivation.
This red wine is crafted from the Tempranillo grape, which is fondly referred to as Tinto Fino by the locals. The name La Planta is derived from the vineyard from which the grapes are sourced. This vineyard is renowned for its sandy and clay soil, and the vines here have been thriving for more than 20 years.
La Planta is known for its deep cherry hue and an aroma that is a delightful blend of intense red fruit scents such as cherries and strawberries. These are often accompanied by whispers of spices and a hint of wood. These unique characteristics can be attributed to the oak barrels in which La Planta is aged for approximately six months, lending it subtle wooden flavors that do not overpower the fruity essence.
La Planta greets the palate with a medium body and a well-balanced profile. The ripe fruit flavors are further enhanced by soft tannins. The harmonious profile of this wine makes it an ideal choice for a variety of food pairings. It especially complements grilled or roasted meats, a variety of Spanish tapas, or medium-aged cheeses.
