Casanova di Neri
Casanova di Neri, a renowned Italian winery, was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri. Giovanni Neri, originally a grain and seed merchant, left the bustling city of Montevarchi in the Arno valley south of Florence to pursue his passion for wine. Despite being in close proximity to the famous Chianti Classico region, it was the austere and unpredictable nature of the Sangiovese grape growing in the Montalcino region that captivated him. His ambition was to create an exceptional Italian red wine that would be recognised worldwide.
Having a lifelong passion for wine, Giovanni Neri embarked on this great adventure with a single-minded vision, a vision that has now placed Casanova di Neri on the global wine map. The wines produced here embody the spirit of the Italian tradition, the rugged charm of the Montalcino region, and the relentless passion of its founder. The unpredictability of the Sangiovese grapes adds an element of surprise and intrigue to each bottle of wine, making it a truly unique experience for the wine connoisseur.
Casanova di Neri, Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova, 2017
Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 2017 hails from Tuscany, a region celebrated for its wine production. This wine embodies the elegance and power that Brunello di Montalcino is known for.
The vineyard represents a pioneering and visionary project. Named Tenuta Nuova, or new property, it is a place where Sangiovese was not previously planted. The project was born from a passion to produce a Brunello that was both powerful and drinkable with high aging potential. The vineyard was carefully researched and planned to optimize the production of excellent Sangiovese grapes.
The wine is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes, reflecting its terroir perfectly. The Tuscan sun, rich soils, and careful cultivation contribute to its outstanding qualities.
The 2017 vintage shows the resilience of the Casanova di Neri estate. Despite challenging climatic conditions, the winemakers crafted a remarkable wine.
Upon opening, the wine presents a complex array of aromas. Ripe cherries, wild berries, and plum are complemented by cocoa, sweet spices, and hints of balsamic. The taste echoes these flavors with the addition of dried herbs, tobacco, and leather, all underpinned by a mineral quality. The tannins are firm yet refined, balancing the richness of the fruit.
Despite its richness, there is an elegance to the Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 2017. The acidity is well integrated, ensuring the wine never overwhelms but leaves a refreshing impression on the palate.
With great aging potential, this wine promises to evolve and reveal further nuances in the coming decades. Whether enjoyed now or left to mature, it is a testament to the art of winemaking and a celebration of the Sangiovese grape.
