Boglietti Winery
Established in 1991 by brothers Enzo and Gianni Boglietti, the Boglietti Winery is a testament to a rich family tradition of winemaking. The brothers, having grown up farming their father's original vineyard in La Morra, expanded the family's holdings to over 50 acres of single vineyard sites, most of which lie on Piedmont's famed golden slope, a region known for its superior wines. Some of these vineyards boast 100-year-old-plus plant material, adding a touch of history and depth to the flavors of the wines produced. The Boglietti lineup, ranging from stylish normale to stunning cru Dolcetto, Barbera, and Barolo, has few rivals when it comes to energy and depth of character. These wines are the result of grapes that are sustainably farmed and picked by hand, ensuring only the highest quality produce is used. The fermentation process is carried out with native yeasts, maintaining the natural integrity and flavor profile of the grapes. The Boglietti Winery is a perfect blend of tradition and innovation, producing wines that are not only delightful to the palate but also respectful of the environment. The result is a collection of wines that truly reflect the passion and dedication of the Boglietti brothers and their commitment to the art of winemaking.
Enzo Boglietti, Barbera d'Alba, 2020
This 2020 Barbera d'Alba is a testament to Enzo Boglietti's dedication to the craft of winemaking. Produced in the vineyards of Alba, a region nestled in Italy's Piedmont, this wine embodies the quality and prestige of this renowned wine region.
Azienda Agricola Enzo Boglietti, a family-owned winery, produces approximately 100,000 bottles annually, sourcing grapes exclusively from their 22 hectares of vineyards. The winery is based in La Morra, with vineyards spanning across the communes of La Morra, Barolo, Monforte, Serralunga d’Alba, Roddino, and Sinio.
Upon pouring, this Barbera d'Alba reveals a deep ruby red hue, which is a hallmark of Barbera wines. The bouquet offers a rich array of ripe red and dark fruit notes, including cherries, plums, and blackberries.
This wine strikes a balance between its robust fruit and acidity, maintaining a medium-bodied profile. Supple tannins provide structure to the wine, adding complexity without overwhelming the palate.
The finish is pleasingly persistent, with fruit flavors lingering and inviting another sip. While enjoyable in its youth, this Barbera d'Alba has the potential to mature gracefully in the cellar over several years, thanks to the balance of acid, tannin, and fruit.
Like many Italian wines, this Barbera d'Alba is a versatile partner to a wide variety of dishes. Its bright acidity and vibrant fruit notes allow it to pair well with everything from pizza and pasta to grilled meats and robust stews.
