Boglietti Winery
Established in 1991 by brothers Enzo and Gianni Boglietti, the Boglietti Winery is a testament to a rich family tradition of winemaking. The brothers, having grown up farming their father's original vineyard in La Morra, expanded the family's holdings to over 50 acres of single vineyard sites, most of which lie on Piedmont's famed golden slope, a region known for its superior wines. Some of these vineyards boast 100-year-old-plus plant material, adding a touch of history and depth to the flavors of the wines produced. The Boglietti lineup, ranging from stylish normale to stunning cru Dolcetto, Barbera, and Barolo, has few rivals when it comes to energy and depth of character. These wines are the result of grapes that are sustainably farmed and picked by hand, ensuring only the highest quality produce is used. The fermentation process is carried out with native yeasts, maintaining the natural integrity and flavor profile of the grapes. The Boglietti Winery is a perfect blend of tradition and innovation, producing wines that are not only delightful to the palate but also respectful of the environment. The result is a collection of wines that truly reflect the passion and dedication of the Boglietti brothers and their commitment to the art of winemaking.
Enzo Boglietti, Barbera d'Alba, 2022
Azienda Agricola Enzo Boglietti is a family-owned winery nestled in the heart of Italy's famed Piedmont region. The winery is located in La Morra, with vineyards spread across the communes of La Morra, Barolo, Monforte, Serralunga d’Alba, Roddino, and Sinio. This winery takes pride in producing about 100,000 bottles a year, with grapes exclusively sourced from 22 hectares of their own vineyards.
The 2022 vintage of their Barbera d'Alba is a true testament to the winery's commitment to quality and tradition. In the glass, the wine showcases a deep ruby red color, a characteristic feature of the Barbera grape. The nose is filled with an enticing blend of ripe red and dark fruits, including cherries, plums, and blackberries.
The wine is medium-bodied, with robust fruitiness and acidity that do not overpower. Supple tannins provide structure, creating a balance between the vibrant fruit, the lively acidity, and the gentle tannic backbone. The finish is pleasant and persistent, with fruity flavors lingering, urging for another sip.
Though approachable in its youth, this wine's harmony of acidity, tannins, and fruit indicates potential for aging. With time, the wine will continue to evolve, offering an even more complex and refined tasting experience.
Like many Italian wines, Enzo Boglietti's Barbera d'Alba shines when paired with food. Its bright acidity and fruit-forward profile make it versatile, complementing everything from pizza and pasta to grilled meats and hearty stews. This is a wine that invites you to explore the rich and diverse culinary traditions of Italy.
