Louis Roederer, Cristal, 2012
Louis Roederer Cristal, a sparkling wine of the highest prestige, boasts a rich legacy of excellence. The 2012 vintage upholds this reputation. The label Cristal is derived from the flat-bottomed, clear lead-crystal bottle that houses the wine, a tradition dating back to 1876 when it was first crafted for Tsar Alexander II of Russia. Since then, Cristal has been made available commercially in 1945.
The production of Cristal is limited to only the finest years, where the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes meet the exacting standards of the house. The 2012 vintage is a testament to the resilience and meticulous efforts of the vineyard and cellar workers in a year characterized by meteorological challenges. The result is a wine epitomizing precision and finesse.
The blend for the 2012 vintage is predominantly Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims and Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. After six years of aging in the house's cellars, an additional eight months follow post-disgorging, contributing to the wine's renowned elegance and depth.
The tasting experience is a symphony of flavors. Energetic bubbles burst to release a bouquet of citrus and orchard fruits, complemented by toasted nuts, white chocolate, and caramel. The palate is treated to ripe fruits, honeyed citrus, and baked bread, all balanced by a lively mineral freshness. The Louis Roederer Cristal 2012 is a sparkling wine that captures the essence of its Champagne origins and the dedication of its producers.
