Ricasoli Winery
Ricasoli Winery, located in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine region, is the epitome of Tuscan wine culture. Nestled among gentle hills, velvety valleys, and thick woodlands of oaks and chestnuts, the property spans an impressive 1,200 hectares, which includes nearly 240 hectares of vineyards and 26 of olive groves. This creates a breathtaking panorama around the Brolio Castle, located within the town limits of Gaiole in Chianti, and a constant succession of colors and hues that paint a picture of Tuscany's natural beauty. Since 1993, Baron Francesco Ricasoli has been at the helm of this central Tuscan company, guiding it through innovative challenges. His stewardship is characterized by a deep respect for his ancestors, notably Bettino Ricasoli, who have played significant roles in shaping this territory. Francesco Ricasoli’s leadership has seen the introduction of new ideas and concepts aimed at making the vineyards sustainable. He has embarked on an ongoing study of soil types and a clonal selection of the Brolio Sangiovese, demonstrating his passion and commitment to the vineyards. His efforts have led to the total renovation and comprehensive mapping of the vineyards. The new wines, therefore, are the embodiment of the research carried out with the same scientific rigor as his illustrious ancestor but with a contemporary spirit. Like a runner receiving the baton, Francesco Ricasoli carries it forward with renewed energy, ensuring that the Ricasoli Winery continues to offer wines that are a true expression of their terroir.
Ricasoli, Castello di Brolio, 2019
From the heart of the Chianti Classico region in Tuscany, Italy emerges this distinguished red wine, Castello di Brolio 2019 by Ricasoli. With a rich history dating back to the 12th century, Ricasoli stands as one of the oldest wineries in the world and the oldest in Italy. The estate's roots run deep in the historic Castello di Brolio, a castle that has been in the Ricasoli family since 1141.
The Iron Baron, Barone Bettino Ricasoli, was instrumental in establishing the estate's reputation. His experimentation in the 19th century led to the creation of the original formula for Chianti wine, which is the foundation of the modern Chianti Classico we enjoy today.
Castello di Brolio 2019 is the flagship wine of Ricasoli, born from a careful selection of estate-grown Sangiovese grapes. These grapes are cultivated in the three most representative soils in Brolio: Macigno del Chianti (sandstone), Scaglia Toscana (Galestro), and Monte Morello (Alberese), each contributing unique characteristics to the wine.
The Sangiovese grapes were harvested from September 21 to 28, 2020. The winemaking process involved fermentation and maceration in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 24°C-27°C (75.2°-80.6°F), with 14-16 days of skin contact to extract the optimal amount of flavor and aroma from the grapes. This wine was then aged for 22 months in 500lt tonneaux, with 30% new oak and 70% second passage, before it was bottled on March 9, 2022.
With an alcohol level of 14.5%, Castello di Brolio 2019 presents a robust and full-bodied experience. This wine has earned high acclaim from industry experts, receiving 95 points from Robert Parker and Wine Spectator, 96 points from James Suckling, and 92 points from Decanter. This recognition speaks volumes about the quality and craftsmanship of this wine.
Whether you are a seasoned connoisseur or a casual enthusiast, the Castello di Brolio 2019 offers a distinctive taste of the rich history and winemaking heritage from the iconic Ricasoli estate. Experience a piece of Italy's wine history with each sip.
