Ricasoli Winery, located in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine region, is the epitome of Tuscan wine culture. Nestled among gentle hills, velvety valleys, and thick woodlands of oaks and chestnuts, the property spans an impressive 1,200 hectares, which includes nearly 240 hectares of vineyards and 26 of olive groves. This creates a breathtaking panorama around the Brolio Castle, located within the town limits of Gaiole in Chianti, and a constant succession of colors and hues that paint a picture of Tuscany's natural beauty. Since 1993, Baron Francesco Ricasoli has been at the helm of this central Tuscan company, guiding it through innovative challenges. His stewardship is characterized by a deep respect for his ancestors, notably Bettino Ricasoli, who have played significant roles in shaping this territory. Francesco Ricasoli’s leadership has seen the introduction of new ideas and concepts aimed at making the vineyards sustainable. He has embarked on an ongoing study of soil types and a clonal selection of the Brolio Sangiovese, demonstrating his passion and commitment to the vineyards. His efforts have led to the total renovation and comprehensive mapping of the vineyards. With an impressive score from renowned wine critics, the 2019 CeniPrimo from Ricasoli exemplifies the rich history and meticulous craft of one of the oldest wine estates in Italy. Situated in the heart of the Chianti Classico region in Tuscany, the Ricasoli family has been refining their winemaking techniques since the 12th century. The estate is centered around the historic Castello di Brolio, which has been in the family's possession since 1141.
Barone Bettino Ricasoli, also known as the Iron Baron, was instrumental in establishing the modern identity of Chianti wine. After extensive experimentation in the 19th century, he developed the original formula for Chianti, which has since become the foundation for the Chianti Classico we enjoy today.
True to its roots, the 2019 CeniPrimo is a testament to the estate's commitment to quality and tradition. The grapes were grown in the southernmost part of the property, in the great valley of the River Arbia. The soil here is unique and complex, originating from an ancient river terrace from the Pliocene-Pleistocene epochs. It consists of silty deposits with little stone, clay, a bit of limestone, and is low in organic matter.
The harvest for the 2019 CeniPrimo took place on October 12, 2019. The grapes were handpicked, ensuring only the highest quality fruit was used. The fermentation process was carefully controlled at a temperature of 24-27°C with daily punching. The duration of fermentation and maceration on the skins lasted approximately 14-16 days.
The wine was then aged for 22 months in 500-liter tonneaux, with 30% being new and 70% being second passage. The bottling process was completed on March 7, 2022. The result is a wine that embodies the spirit of Chianti Classico and the dedication of the Ricasoli family.
