Ricasoli Winery

Ricasoli Winery, located in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine region, is the epitome of Tuscan wine culture. Nestled among gentle hills, velvety valleys, and thick woodlands of oaks and chestnuts, the property spans an impressive 1,200 hectares, which includes nearly 240 hectares of vineyards and 26 of olive groves. This creates a breathtaking panorama around the Brolio Castle, located within the town limits of Gaiole in Chianti, and a constant succession of colors and hues that paint a picture of Tuscany's natural beauty. Since 1993, Baron Francesco Ricasoli has been at the helm of this central Tuscan company, guiding it through innovative challenges. His stewardship is characterized by a deep respect for his ancestors, notably Bettino Ricasoli, who have played significant roles in shaping this territory. Francesco Ricasoli’s leadership has seen the introduction of new ideas and concepts aimed at making the vineyards sustainable. He has embarked on an ongoing study of soil types and a clonal selection of the Brolio Sangiovese, demonstrating his passion and commitment to the vineyards. His efforts have led to the total renovation and comprehensive mapping of the vineyards. The new wines, therefore, are the embodiment of the research carried out with the same scientific rigor as his illustrious ancestor but with a contemporary spirit. Like a runner receiving the baton, Francesco Ricasoli carries it forward with renewed energy, ensuring that the Ricasoli Winery continues to offer wines that are a true expression of their terroir.

Ricasoli, CeniPrimo, 2019

In the heart of the renowned Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, Italy, lies the historic Ricasoli winery. It holds the distinction of being one of the oldest wine estates in the world, tracing its origins back to the 12th century. The estate, located at the majestic Castello di Brolio, has been in the Ricasoli family since 1141. The Iron Baron, Barone Bettino Ricasoli, significantly contributed to the estate's standing, formulating the original recipe for Chianti wine in the 19th century. This formula laid the foundation for the modern Chianti Classico we relish today.

The 2019 CeniPrimo is a testament to the rich winemaking tradition of Ricasoli. The vineyard for this particular Cru is located in the expansive valley of the River Arbia, the southernmost part of the property. The soil here is unique and complex, originating from an ancient river terrace from the Pliocene-Pleistocene epochs. It is composed of silty deposits with little stone, clay, a hint of limestone, and a low organic matter content.

The grapes for CeniPrimo were harvested by hand on October 12, 2019. The fermentation process followed, with temperatures maintained between 24-27°C and daily punching. This stage, along with maceration on the skins, lasted approximately 14-16 days. Aging took place for 22 months in 500-litre tonneaux, with 30% new and 70% second passage. The bottling process was completed on March 7, 2022.

With a distinguished history, meticulous winemaking process, and a unique geographical location, the 2019 CeniPrimo from Ricasoli offers both casual wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs an exceptional experience. Enjoy the rich heritage of one of the oldest wineries in the world with every sip.

This wine is packaged in a 6 L bottle. Generally, larger bottles allow wine to age better.
