Charles Heidsieck Blanc de Blancs is a refined and elegant Champagne produced by the highly respected Champagne house, Charles Heidsieck, founded in Reims in 1851.
As the name implies, Blanc de Blancs is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, a traditional varietal in the production of Champagne.
The Chardonnay grapes used in Charles Heidsieck Blanc de Blancs come from the top vineyards, or crus, of the Côte des Blancs, an area in Champagne known for its exceptional Chardonnay. The wine is aged for 3-4 years in the cellars, adding depth and complexity to the final product.
In the glass, Charles Heidsieck Blanc de Blancs is pale, crystalline gold with the typical glints of the Chardonnay varietal.
On the nose, the aromas of mature Chardonnay can be recognized initially: white peach, candied citrus with notes of lime, honeysuckle and fresh hazelnut, giving way to subtle hints of tangerine and lemon.
On the palate, freshness and tautness mark this typically Charles generosity: the attack is pure and forthright. Not aggressive but almost unconventionally suave for a Blanc de Blancs, so often characterised as being sharp rather than creamy. The harmonious finish offers surprising minerality and a slight salinity.
Charles Heidsieck Blanc de Blancs is a versatile wine when it comes to food pairings. It can be served as an aperitif or with a variety of dishes, including seafood, shellfish, poultry, and light cheese-based dishes.
