Ricasoli Winery

Ricasoli Winery, located in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine region, is the epitome of Tuscan wine culture. Nestled among gentle hills, velvety valleys, and thick woodlands of oaks and chestnuts, the property spans an impressive 1,200 hectares, which includes nearly 240 hectares of vineyards and 26 of olive groves. This creates a breathtaking panorama around the Brolio Castle, located within the town limits of Gaiole in Chianti, and a constant succession of colors and hues that paint a picture of Tuscany's natural beauty. Since 1993, Baron Francesco Ricasoli has been at the helm of this central Tuscan company, guiding it through innovative challenges. His stewardship is characterized by a deep respect for his ancestors, notably Bettino Ricasoli, who have played significant roles in shaping this territory. Francesco Ricasoli’s leadership has seen the introduction of new ideas and concepts aimed at making the vineyards sustainable. He has embarked on an ongoing study of soil types and a clonal selection of the Brolio Sangiovese, demonstrating his passion and commitment to the vineyards. His efforts have led to the total renovation and comprehensive mapping of the vineyards. The new wines, therefore, are the embodiment of the research carried out with the same scientific rigor as his illustrious ancestor but with a contemporary spirit. Like a runner receiving the baton, Francesco Ricasoli carries it forward with renewed energy, ensuring that the Ricasoli Winery continues to offer wines that are a true expression of their terroir.

Ricasoli, CeniPrimo, 2019

Originating from the historic Ricasoli estate, nestled in the heart of the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, Italy, CeniPrimo 2019 is a testament to centuries of winemaking tradition. With roots tracing back to the 12th century, Ricasoli is a name synonymous with excellence and a deep respect for the land.

Castello di Brolio, the estate's home, is a castle steeped in history and the birthplace of the original formula for Chianti wine. This formula, crafted by Barone Bettino Ricasoli, the Iron Baron, in the 19th century, laid the foundation for the modern Chianti Classico that we cherish today.

CeniPrimo 2019 is a product of the southernmost part of the Ricasoli estate, nurtured by the fertile soils of the River Arbia valley. These soils, dating back to the Pliocene-Pleistocene epochs, are a unique blend of silt, clay, and limestone, with little stone and organic matter. This distinct soil composition brings a unique character to the wine.

Harvested by hand on October 12, 2019, the grapes underwent a meticulous winemaking process. Fermentation took place at a maintained temperature of 24-27°C, with daily punching, over a span of 14-16 days. This was followed by an aging period of 22 months in 500-liter tonneaux, 30% of which were new and 70% were second passage. The wine was bottled on March 7, 2022.

With an alcohol level of 14%, CeniPrimo 2019 is a full-bodied red wine that embodies the essence of the Sangiovese grape. It carries the spirit of Tuscany, the passion of the Ricasoli family, and the rich history of the Chianti Classico region.
